Intense Pulsed LightUnderstanding Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Treatments The Basis of IPL/FPL Technology IPL systems are light based systems that use light to treat different conditions from unwanted hair growth, skin rejuvenation, (photo rejuvenation) active acne, vascular lesions and other pigmentation issues. When the light hits an object the object will absorb certain wavelengths. It's important to understand that different object absorb different wavelengths. By using selective absorption it is possible to direct the light to a target area without damaging the surrounding area. By using selective absorption allows the light to hit the target area, such as the hair follicle and the living cells that surround it. By ensuring that the energy added to the absorption volume are evenly distributed throughout the entire pulse width ensures that there isn't too little or too much energy to hit the target area. The colour of the light is described as its wavelength - there are a number of colours that are not visible to the naked eye. The visible spectrum of light is 400nm (blue light) to about 700nm (red light). IPL systems generates a light beam during a certain amount of time. This is known as the pulse-width, (pulse duration and pulse length). It is based on how long the light beam is actually active. IPLs are much more effective than lasers. They generate a light similar to a camera flash, an intense light that produces many different wavelengths while blocking out the light that would be harmful to the skin.
